What Happens to Your Data When a Plan is Not Renewed

When a hosting plan expires and the renewal invoice is not paid within the grace period, the account goes through the following stages:

Stage 1 — Invoice Generated A renewal invoice is raised automatically before your plan’s expiry date. You receive email reminders at regular intervals.

Stage 2 — Grace Period If the invoice remains unpaid after the due date, your hosting account is suspended. Your website goes offline, but your data is still retained on the server during this grace period.

Stage 3 — Account Termination If the invoice is cancelled or remains unpaid beyond the grace period, the hosting account is permanently terminated and all associated data is removed from the active server environment. This includes your website files, MySQL databases, email accounts, and any cPanel configuration.

Important: Once an account is terminated, your data is no longer accessible through cPanel or your Client Dashboard. Standard automated backups are also removed as part of the account termination process.


Can Your Data Be Recovered After Termination?

In many cases — yes, provided sufficient time has not passed and the data has not been overwritten at the data centre level.

myglobalHOST’s Data Centre team retains server-level snapshots for a limited period after account termination. This is separate from your hosting plan backups and is not guaranteed in all cases. Recovery depends on:

  • How recently the account was terminated
  • Whether the server storage has been reallocated
  • The plan tier the account was on

This is why some customers who return within a few days have a higher chance of recovery than those returning after several months.


How to Reactivate Your Hosting After Expiry

If You Have Your Own Backup

If you have a full cPanel backup downloaded before expiry, the process is straightforward:

  1. Contact our support team via WhatsApp at +91-79862-84663 or raise a ticket through your Client Dashboard
  2. A new invoice for your original or equivalent plan will be issued
  3. Once payment is confirmed, your account is reactivated
  4. Upload your backup and restore your website

No data restoration charges apply in this case.

If You Do Not Have a Backup

If you do not have your own backup and are requesting data recovery from our Data Centre team:

  1. Contact our support team and confirm your intent to reactivate
  2. A new hosting invoice for your plan will be raised
  3. A one-time Data Restoration Charge of ₹1,999 will be applied — this covers the time and resources required by our Data Centre team to locate, extract, and restore your account data from server-level archives
  4. Once both invoices are cleared, the DC team initiates the restoration process
  5. If data is successfully recovered, it is restored to your reactivated account

Please note: The ₹1,999 restoration charge is applicable regardless of whether the recovery is fully or partially successful. This charge covers the DC team’s effort and cannot be waived. Data recovery is not guaranteed — it is a best-effort process dependent on server-level availability of your data at the time of the request.


Key Points to Remember

  • Renew on time. The simplest and most reliable way to protect your data is to pay your renewal invoice before it is cancelled. Set a calendar reminder for 7 days before your invoice due date.
  • Download your backup regularly. Even while your account is active, take periodic full cPanel backups and store them locally or in cloud storage. This is your most reliable safety net — independent of any hosting provider’s retention policy.
  • Backup retention varies by plan. The number of backup days and retention period available through Backup in your cPanel depends on your specific hosting plan. Check your plan’s specifications or contact support to confirm your backup retention window.
  • Act quickly if your account has lapsed. The sooner you contact us after an account termination, the higher the probability of a successful data recovery. Accounts that have been terminated for more than 90 days have a significantly lower chance of recovery.
  • The restoration fee is non-refundable. Once the DC team begins the recovery process, the ₹1,999 charge is applied. We strongly recommend contacting support first to discuss the likelihood of recovery before proceeding.

Backup — Your First Line of Defence While Active

As long as your hosting account is active, Backup is available directly within cPanel. You can use it to:

  • Download full account backups at any time
  • Restore individual files, databases, or email accounts from previous backup points
  • Schedule and manage your own backup copies

The most important habit for any website owner: download a full backup at least once a month and store it somewhere outside your hosting account — your local computer, Google Drive, or any external storage.

This single habit eliminates the need for data restoration charges entirely.
